About us

read a bit about us and meet our team

We would like to take a moment to acquaint you with our health care facility. The Old Capital Veterinary Hospital began in 1988, in a small rental building in Corydon, Indiana. In 1990, Dr. Towsley built the first stand alone Veterinary Hospital in Harrison County. Since its inception, the Hospital has had an open door policy. Ask our receptionists for a tour of the facility.  We would be glad to show you around! I know you will be impressed on how well equipped the hospital is and how dedicated our staff is to helping each and every patient.

Whether it is an annual wellness exam or your pet just isn’t feeling well, our staff is ready to give your pet the attention it deserves. We operate primarily by appointment, so feel free to give us a call at (812) 738-VETS to schedule your appointment today! Our doctor’s hours are Monday through Wednesday & Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. He is only available on Thursdays by appointment.

Dr. Towsley

I grew up on a farm in Minnesota surrounded by animals. I received my doctorate of veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota. I started this practice in 1988 and built the first and only veterinary hospital in Harrison county. Cooking is my hobby and you can find many opportunities for my donated gourmet dinners at various local organizations in the area. My special interests at the hospital include preventive care and surgery. I am married to Kathleen, the receptionist at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville.

    Dr. Cromwell

Originally from Ohio, I moved to Corydon in 2005 and worked part time at the Old Capital Veterinary Hospital from 2006-2009. I currently do relief work for Dr. Towsley. I always love having the chance to work with the friendly staff and wonderful clients and patients of the Old Capital Veterinary Hospital. I live with my husband of 16 years, Blake Cromwell (a native of Corydon whom I met while in the All-American Marching Band at Purdue University), 3 beautiful girls, 4 crazy cats, and one 85 lb. lap dog. I am pictured here with an affectionate lab mix that wants to kiss me in the face!

My name is Nicole Rexing, B.A., RVT. I grew up in Palmyra, IN surrounded by animals. I graduated from Purdue University of Veterinary Technology in December of 2000. I became a Registered Veterinary Technician in January of 2001. I am also certified in behavior modification for dogs. On my days off I hold behavior consultations and puppy classes at my home in Dale, IN. I am married with two wonderful children. My other loves are my five horses, three dogs, six cats and one macaw parrot.

My name is Jessica. I currently work as a Kennel Assistant at OCVH. I enjoy working with all the animals and the staff here at Old Capital Veterinary Hospital. I have three dogs and two cats. I also have three wonderful daughters that I absolutely adore.

Originally from New York I have loved animals since I was a little girl and my dream was to one day be able to work with them. Since moving to the Midwest, I went to school and graduated as a Phlebotomist. Since then, I have been working at the Old Capital Veterinary Hospital where I have been able to put my phlebotomy skills to use on animals. I have learned so much more from Dr. Towsley and Staff. I love being able to wake up every day and know I will go to work and help the animals of Harrison County.

My name is Bob and I am originally from San Antonio, TX. I have lived in many places throughout the US and Europe. My wife and I moved here from Estes Park, CO, in 2000 and have loved being here. We have two wonderful cats who have trained us very well. I love being around animals and love working here at Old Capital Veterinary Hospital. I am very understanding of the other "owners" of pets, especially those who know the truth: that our "pets" are really the owners--we humans are merely here to serve them. Having first been a client of this hospital, I can assure you that your pets will be treated with the same compassion that my pets have received. The staff here genuinely cares for the well-being of every pet and owner who enters our doors.
